Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by: Mildred D. Taylor

Cassie Logan and her family live in the South. Even though they are free, they still face hardships, whether it is racism, land, or injury. Even though the Whites take away their rights they will never be able to take away their land. They live in fear, that one night they will wake up to gunshots from the Night Men.

This book has really made the past real to me. I've always heard about segregation but never really felt like it actually happened. Reading this book has helped me to realize that those things really did occur. Even though I can never fully comprehend what happened, I have been able to see a part of it through the eyes of Cassie Logan. This book is for children ages 13 and older and is 288 pages long. I would rate it a 4 out of 5 stars.
